Can we nourish a tree by watering its flowers and leaves ?

I have a lovely Gulmohar tree close to my second-floor bedroom window and it has been in full bloom for many weeks now. In mid-summer its colorful flowers blossom forth, and even its leaves have such beauty, such awesome symmetry of design !

But I cannot nourish this tree by watering the flowers and leaves that I admire so much ; I must reach the roots and nourish them with water and manure.

Similarly, we cannot satisfy the soul by feeding the senses with pleasures, because we are not the senses ; we just have them. I do not myself get cleaned if I wash my shirt.

Love is the most important truth of life, the raison d’etre of creation, and yet has been the least understood.

Before we understand love, we must understand why we came into being. God created us ("Eko aham bahusyam") because, all alone He could neither love nor be loved. There was so much of that pure joy in Him (Anand of Sat-Chit-Ananda), that He wanted to share it.

While engrossed in work at home or in office, if we can be anchored in an inner calmness, it greatly helps.

This needs developing Self-awareness. Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, the author of 'Autobiography of a Yogi', says "Be Calmly Active & Actively Calm". In other words, ‘to buy and sell but to keep our minds on God’.
